5 Tips for A Successful Rome Trip

Rome was the first destination on my solo Eurotrip, so it’ll always occupy a special place in my heart. From the decadent cuisine to the presence of history at every corner, the Eternal City is truly a beautiful one. Don’t let the museums and architecture of this ancient capital fool you. It’s just as vibrant and lively as the 9 million inquisitive tourists that visit the city annually. I travelled to Rome in June. Which, is one of several months when it tends to be densely populated by tourists. Here are some tips to optimize your adventure When in Rome

1. Do not by any means, accept roses from strangers on the street

Whether it’s handed to you directly or dropped on the ground nearby, do not fall for it. The second it enters your possession; they will attempt to charge you for it even if it was offered as a gift several times. Firmly say no, and keep it pushing. You can stop and smell the roses (for free) some other time.

2. Dress appropriately

Most of the top tourist attractions (The Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps & The Pantheon) are within walking distance of one another. I highly recommend letting the cobblestones streets be your guide. You'll uncover more beauty than anticipated, and it'll save you money on transport.

Churches and other places of worship require knees to be covered and spaghetti straps are a no-no. Think capris, long skirts, dresses, and t-shirts. There are vendors scattered all around the entrance selling scarves just in case too, but may cost a pretty penny!

3. Eat Like a Local

Avoid grabbing a bite to eat around any of the tourist attractions. Restaurants in these areas tend to jack up the prices and more often than not, the food isn’t even enjoyable. My favourite pastime is asking the locals for recommendations and getting to experience the city through the stomach of an Italian.

4.
